In the video, which has since been removed from the platform, Hilton appears to be self-harming using a knife and covering his torso in blood.
Multiple calls were then placed to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office about an individual "broadcasting self-harm on social media".
Officers confirmed to Rolling Stone that Hilton was the person involved in the incident.
Deputies traced his home address and spoke with relatives at the scene, where they stablished that Hilton was inside the property by himself.
Miami police have now issued a statement outlining its approach to the situation.
"In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication," the statement reads.
"Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public."
Officers said they had tactically withdrawn from the scene whilst continuing to monitor developments.
The Sheriff's Office added that support was being provided to Hilton's family throughout.
