Plans for a new £7m Aldi store in Cardiff has gained local support with 90% of residents backing the proposal, it has been claimed. The supermarket giant announced its intentions to open a new store at Wern Fawr Lane in Old St Mellons in March with plans yet to be approved. If given the green light it will be the eighth Aldi store in the capital with developers saying it will create 40 full and part-time jobs and cost £7m to build. The site is currently an underused section of the car park in Eastern Business Park. A public consultation has taken place to understand the views of people in the local area. Overall 672 people replied to the consultation with 90.2% of people supporting the proposal and 509 residents saying that they hope the council will approve the plans. Rob Jones, Aldi real estate director, commented: "We are delighted by the strong support from the Old St Mellons community.
