Outrage after suburb is turned into an illegal dumping ground as rubbish piles up on the roadside: 'Not the Australian way'

Published: 02:24, 3 August 2026 | Updated: 02:25, 3 August 2026 Locals have been left outraged after several of their streets were turned into an illegal dumping site.  Mounds of rubbish have grown along Sixth Avenue and Lippizan Road in Australia, south-west Sydney. A disgusted resident took to Facebook to share photos, showing cardboard boxes, paint buckets and furniture abandoned on the roadside.  'This wasn't the Australian way of living,' they wrote. 'Do we need basic lessons of how to keep the community clean or do we need rangers and cameras everywhere? 'Half of this is construction waste and basic garbage from houses where the council is giving you free pick up.' The resident also felt it was an example of people disrespecting the rules of society.      'Whoever thinks that this is an issue with the tip being privately owned or too expensive instead of like the good old days when it was free, no,' he said.  Locals have been left outraged after their Western Sydney street was turned into an illegal dumping site, with one calling it 'un-Australian' 'This is more about having the basic human decency to keep the place and the environment where you live clean.' Liverpool City Councillor Peter Ristevski said the dumping was evidence that basic council services are failing. 'The basics are being ignored while residents are left staring at piles of rubbish like this,' he said.  'I was criticised for raising concerns about whether Austral's infrastructure can cope with major new developments like a mosque.  'Yet if the council can't even keep our streets clean, how can anyone seriously believe it's ready to take on even more pressure?' Daily Mail has contacted Liverpool City Council for comment.  Many residents voiced their disapproval of the disgusting act.  'Another five years and this place will become unrecognisable,' one said.  Piles of garbage and household waste, including cardboard boxes, paint buckets and furniture, were seen scattered along Sixth Avenue and Lippizan Road in Austral 'Whatever happened to the keep Australia Beautiful campaign? Looks like people need to be educated once again,' a second said.  'This is very unacceptable, illegal dumping should be jailed for a minimum of three years,' a third said.  Others said the dumping was a result of poor management by council. 'I blame councils as it should make tips free. We pay enough in rates and get nothing,' one said.  'The tips were free back in the day and now the greedy councils charge which contributes to the problem of illegal dumping,' a second said.   'Perhaps the tips should be free because of this increasing dumped rubbish problem,' a third said.  'It probably costs less than having to constantly remove all the dumped rubbish and then dispose of it.'  The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) says illegal dumping is an offence, with on-the-spot fines of up to $1,000 for individuals and up to $15,000 for more serious waste-dumping offences.
