I hope you’ve had a great week so far.I’ve been playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on my Nintendo Switch 2 after the publisher kindly sent me a code for review. I was interested to find out how well this blockbuster game (which was one of my favorites of 2024) runs on a console that’s less powerful than a PS5, Xbox Series X/S or recent PC.I was pleasantly surprised by how well the game ran in handheld mode! Other than very short loading times between cutscenes and gameplay, it played very smoothly in the three hours or so I played. Of course, the developers had to make some tradeoffs to make it work properly on Switch 2 – the visual fidelity and framerate are lower than they are on PC and other consoles. I think those are fair trades, though, as this seems to be a solid port of an excellent game. Oddly enough, this made me start thinking more about the idea of making sacrifices or tradeoffs to uncomplicate matters. To make life simpler and smoother. The minimalism movement has roots in that idea, I suppose.
