Nine suspects killed, two cops injured in ‘CCD encounters’ across Punjab

LAHORE: Nine suspects were killed, while two police officials were injured in separate encounters with the Crime Control Department (CCD) in various parts of the province on Tuesday.

In Lahore, six suspects were allegedly killed while two police officials were injured during separate ‘encounters’ with the CCD.

A police official claimed that CCD officials conducted a raid in the Sundar area to arrest suspects following reports that wanted robbers were present there. He claimed the armed men hiding there suddenly opened fire on the raiding team, leaving two police personnel wounded. The police also returned the fire and two suspected robbers were found dead.

They were later identified as Alam Sher and Hashim, wanted in over 60 cases in various police stations of the city, the official claimed.

Six of them killed in Lahore

Constables Taswar and Namdar were injured in the encounter and were shifted to a local hospital.

In another encounter with the Iqbal Town CCD, the official said that suspects Bilal alias Mota and Danish were being taken for the recovery of looted items. However, he claimed that their accomplices attacked the CCD team and opened fire, which led to an armed clash. Later, both suspects in custody were found killed ‘by the firing of their own accomplices’, the official claimed.

He further claimed that a CCD team had set up a picket in DHA, where they signalled three motorcycle riders for identity. Instead of stopping, the official claimed that one biker pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the police officials, who luckily escaped unhurt.

The police personnel also fired back, he said, adding that two suspects were later found killed, while the other managed to escape taking advantage of darkness.

The bodies of all the suspects have been shifted to the city morgue for autopsy and further investigations are underway.

SAHIWAL: Two suspects in police custody were killed in an encounter with the Pakpattan CCD while trying to flee near village 110/9-L on the Sahiwal-Pakpattan road.

According to police, a CCD team on patrol received a call at 2:30am on Tuesday that two criminals, wanted by the Ahmed Yar Police, had escaped police custody along with two accomplices on motorcycles a few hours ago. The team was told that the villagers had seen them fleeing near village 112/9-L on Halla Road, Kameer.

Police claimed that on this, the CCD team erected a checkpost on the Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road and intercepted the suspects near village 112/9-L at around 3:45am.

Police claimed that the four outlaws abandoned their bikes after seeing the police and opened fire from a nearby maize field. Police claimed that after a 30-minute exchange of fire, they found the bodies of the two absconders, Nadeem and Allah Ditta. Their two accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness, police said.

Police claimed to have recovered two illegal pistols and a motorcycle from the site.

The bodies were shifted to the Sahiwal THQ Hospital for autopsy.

Later, the Sahiwal CCD registered a case on the complaint of Inspector Waqas Ahmed.

A police team was dispatched to arrest the two fugitives who had escaped.

TOBA TEK SINGH: An alleged drug dealer was killed in an encounter with a joint team of different circles of CCD late on Monday night near Chohala Mor in Faisalabad.

According to CCD sources, officials of Iqbal Town, Lyallpur Town, Medina Division and CCD Police Station SHO were present on a picket near Chohala Mor on a tip-off about the movement of criminal elements.

The CCD claimed that three suspicious motorcycle riders were signalled to stop at the picker but they opened indiscriminate fire which was returned. The CCD claimed that after several minutes, one accused fell to the ground in a seriously injured condition, while his two accomplices managed to escape. The injured suspect identified as Farooq succumbed to his injuries.

The police recovered weapons and drugs from his custody.

Police sources claimed that the deceased was not only involved in drug trade but was also wanted in several cases of robbery, banditry and serious crimes while he was also accused of killing a citizen who resisted a robbery in the Sargodha Road police station area about five years ago. Later, he allegedly pressured the plaintiff to make a statement in his favour and escaped legal capture.

After his release, Farooq allegedly entered the drug trade and soon became a part of the city’s dangerous drug network, police sources claimed.

BAHAWALPUR: The Channigoth Police claimed to have arrested an alleged dacoit in injured condition after an encounter near Ahmedpur East in Bahawalpur district.

According to police sources, on a tip-off about the presence of four suspected dacoits near the Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar (KLP), a Channigoth police party conducted a raid near the water-logging nullah on Sugar Mills Road.

Police claimed the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the police party, which also retaliated. After the firing stopped, police arrested a suspect in injured condition, who was injured by the firing of his own accomplices.

The suspect dacoit was identified as Fakhr Abbas alias Fakhri.

Police claimed to have recovered an illegal pistol from his possession and he was shifted to the hospital.

Police claimed his three accomplices, who fled away under the cover of darkness, had also been identified as Rizwan alias Rajoo, Shehbaz alias Umair Don and Rana Irfan alias Bakar.

Police registered separate cases against them and raids were being carried out to arrest them.
