Nigel Farage has warned Andy Burnham's new Government will take Britain “further to the Left” in his first speech since the former Manchester Mayor became Britain’s new Prime Minister.

Addressing supporters in Norfolk, the Reform UK leader said Mr Burnham had “no mandate whatsoever” to pursue sweeping political change and called for a new General Election.

After succeeding Sir Keir Starmer in Downing Street, Mr Burnham began assembling his new Cabinet, which included a promotion for Ed Miliband to Foreign Secretary and the return of Angela Rayner to her old role as Housing Secretary.

“This Prime Minister and those he's now chosen to be around him will take this country down a route further to the Left,” Mr Farage said.

He warned that would mean “more tax”, claiming Labour's policies would cost the equivalent of “a couple of thousand pounds per household in this country”.

The Reform leader also attacked the Government's borrowing plans, arguing ministers had already lost control of the public finances.

“Their borrowing projection when they came to power for the five-year term is now out by 80 per cent already,” he said.

“We are borrowing money more quickly than any other country on Earth other than Botswana.”

Mr Farage also predicted the new Prime Minister would fail to tackle illegal migration and crime.

“Will Andy Burnham stop the boats? Not a hope in hell.”

He added: “Will there be a coherent Burnham plan for law and order? Not a hope of it.”

Mr Farage also declared the new Prime Minister has no mandate to make major constitutional and economic reforms without first seeking the backing of voters.

In his first speech as Prime Minister yesterday, Mr Burnham promised to deliver a “massive change in our politics”.

“Andy Burnham has no mandate whatsoever to bring about the biggest change for 40 years in British politics,” Mr Farage said.

“It's back to the future. We're going back to the 1970s. God help us,” the Reform leader exclaimed.

Mr Farage concluded his speech by renewing his demand for an immediate General Election, claiming only voters should decide whether Burnham should remain in Downing Street.

“We're the party that says trust the people,” he insisted, adding: “We're the party that says let the people decide.”

"We want, and we demand a General Election... It's right and proper that we have an election now.”
