Marrakech – The Nexus AI Factory project was officially unveiled today on the sidelines of GITEX Africa Morocco 2026, marking a significant milestone in Morocco’s ambition to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure.

Nexus Core Systems, together with its international partners, has selected the outskirts of Casablanca to build a next-generation data center dedicated to artificial intelligence, representing a massive $1.2 billion investment that underscores Morocco’s growing technological ambitions.

The project highlights Morocco’s increasing role in advanced digital infrastructure. The data center is designed to reach a target capacity of 500 megawatts and will run entirely on renewable energy, with TAQA Morocco providing the clean power supply.

A sovereign, integrated AI ecosystem

Nexus Core Systems, alongside Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, and Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) marking the operational launch of the first phases of the “Nexus AI Factory Platform.”

The project introduces a sovereign, integrated infrastructure designed to anchor Morocco’s next phase of digital growth.

It combines a high-performance computing (HPC) data center, a Center of Excellence dedicated to services and skills transfer, and an Innovation Hub aimed at incubating advanced AI solutions.

Together, these components are intended to create a full-stack ecosystem capable of supporting both domestic demand and international operations.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, as well as US Ambassador to Morocco, Duke Buchan III, highlighting the strategic alignment between Morocco’s national digital agenda and international technology partnerships.

In a post shared on X, Buchan described the agreement as a defining moment.

“Yesterday, I witnessed something historic at GITEX Africa 2026. Morocco signed a landmark agreement to build the Nexus AI Factory, the first sovereign AI infrastructure platform of its kind in Africa,” he wrote.

“With $1.2 billion in initial investment and 500 megawatts of planned capacity, this project is powered by American technology from Nvidia and engineered to position Morocco as the AI gateway for Africa, Europe, and beyond.”

Scaling investment & reinforcing Morocco’s global AI role

Nexus Core Systems was represented by CEO Jaap Zuiderveld and Chairman Christopher Yoshida.

Backed by an initial investment of MAD 12 billion, the project will be deployed in two structured phases through 2027.

The first phase, located in Nouaceur, will mobilize MAD 5 billion to activate a 16 MW capacity, marking the operational launch of the platform and generating 50 direct jobs.

A second phase, supported by an additional MAD 7 billion investment, will expand capacity by 20 MW at a northern site, bringing the total to 36 MW and creating a total of 125 direct jobs by the end of 2027.

At the national level, Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni emphasized the structural impact of the initiative, noting that the launch of the Nexus AI Factory Platform will contribute to strengthening Morocco’s digital infrastructure while enhancing capabilities in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

From an industry perspective, Nexus Core Systems sees Morocco as a strategic base for global operations.

CEO Jaap Zuiderveld highlighted the country’s competitive advantages, pointing to its political stability, forward-looking leadership, and growing pool of tech talent.

He stressed that the project goes beyond infrastructure deployment, positioning Morocco as a center of excellence capable of managing international AI-driven operations.

Through this agreement, both the Ministry of Investment and AMDIE reaffirm their commitment to attracting high-value, productive investment while reinforcing Morocco’s appeal as a destination for global technology players.

The Nexus AI Factory Platform fits within a broader national strategy aimed at building a competitive digital economy and fostering innovation-led growth.

Aligned with the long-term vision driven at the highest level of the state, the project reflects Morocco’s ambition to emerge as a key technological and industrial hub on the African continent.

By investing in large-scale AI infrastructure and fostering cross-border partnerships, the Kingdom is positioning itself at the intersection of innovation, talent, and global digital flows, laying the foundations for sustained competitiveness in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
