Published: 20:13, 22 April 2026 | Updated: 20:25, 22 April 2026 A newborn baby died after his mother concealed her pregnancy and gave birth without medical help, an inquest has heard. Jasper Gunton was born at his mother Mia Gunton's home in Blackburn on December 21, 2023. Ms Gunton had concealed her pregnancy and had not sought any antenatal care. After Jasper was born, his mother took him to bed with her and allowed him to sleep on her chest. When she woke, she discovered the child was unresponsive. Paramedics rushed to the scene but Jasper could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead.  His cause of death could not be ascertained.  Preston Coroner's Court heard that a baby died after his mother concealed her pregnancy and did not seek medical help After an inquest held on Tuesday, April 21, at Preston Coroners' Court, Area Coroner Kate Bisset returned a narrative conclusion and said: 'Jasper Gunton was born and died on the 21st December 2023 at his home address. 'He was born following a pregnancy which had been concealed and had not benefitted from antenatal care. 'After his birth, Jasper did not receive medical attention and he was taken to bed with his parent who fell asleep with baby Jasper on their chest. 'In the morning, Jasper was found unresponsive and despite resuscitation attempts by paramedics, was pronounced dead. 'It is not possible to determine what caused Jasper's death, which occurred in the context of a pregnancy and birth without medical assistance.' No comments have so far been submitted.
