Neil El Aynaoui Reportedly Open To AS Roma Exit Over Limited Playing Time

Rabat—According to Africa Foot, Moroccan midfielder Neil El Aynaoui, who plays for the Italian club AS Roma, could leave the Giallorossi due to the limited time he is given during the matches. 

Now considered one of the emerging talents of the Moroccan national team and seen by some as part of the next generation following in the footsteps of teammates such as Achraf Hakimi, the 24-year-old believes in his technical qualities and is unwilling to settle for a purely supporting role on the pitch.

Who is Neil El Aynaoui?

El Aynaoui is a Moroccan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for AS Roma and represents Morocco’s national team. He is also the son of former tennis star Younes El Aynaoui, but has built his own path in football through consistent performances and steady development in Europe.

He developed his career in France, notably with Nancy, before rising to prominence at RC Lens, where he established himself as a reliable and hardworking midfielder in Ligue 1. His performances earned him a high-profile move to AS Roma in 2025. 

However, his first season in Italy has been marked by limited playing time, as he has mainly been used as a rotation player due to strong competition in midfield. Despite this, he has gained valuable experience and managed to score his first goal for the club in the UEFA Europa League.

With the Atlas Lions, El Aynaoui has quickly become an important presence in midfield. His performances during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) highlighted his qualities, as he contributed both defensively and offensively, helping maintain balance in the team.
