Mystery man saves family by waking them up and warning them in advance of devastating house fire... before vanishing

Published: 06:51, 31 July 2026 | Updated: 06:51, 31 July 2026 A mystery hero saved a sleeping Nevada family from a devastating house fire when he woke them up and helped them escape - then vanished without a trace.  The blaze erupted at Danna Shabtai's Las Vegas Valley home just before 5am on July 5.  Shabtai said a stranger frantically banged on their door yelling 'fire' and grabbed a garden hose to fight the flames before disappearing without ever revealing his name. Surveillance video outside the home showed the unidentified hero, wearing a hat and dark clothing, repeatedly pounding on the door as the fire spread, trying to wake the sleeping family.  Home security footage also captured ferocious flames engulfing the backyard as the fire spread.  The video then cuts to Shabtai rushing out of the home, carrying her one-year-old son to safety before alerting other neighbors. Shabtai told Fox News Digital she had gone to sleep after confronting children who were lighting off fireworks near her home on July 4.  Hours later, she awoke to frantic doorbell rings and repeated knocking at the front door.  The unidentified hero who pounded on Danna Shabtai's Las Vegas Valley home after a blaze broke out just before 5am Home security footage also captured ferocious flames engulfing the backyard as the fire spread 'My dog started barking, so I woke up and I stumbled to the door,' Shabtai told the outlet.  'I opened the door and the gentleman was yelling, "Fire! Fire!" He pointed toward the back of the house, and I turned around and I could see the French doors to the backyard. I just saw orange - like a wall of orange.' As the flames intensified, Shabtai said her sister grabbed a garden hose to fight the fire outside, while she grabbed her son and raced next door to alert her neighbors. The homeowner frantically banged on her neighbors’ windows to wake them, and two other women joined her in pounding on the door until everyone inside escaped the inferno safely.   As Shabtai warned the others, the brave stranger fetched a hose from a nearby house and tried to keep the flames at bay.  'He went to those neighbors' house and grabbed their hose from the front yard, and he was trying to put out their fire,' Shabtai told the outlet. 'So not only did he wake us up, he was trying to put out the fire with my sister.' Shabtai posted photos of the mystery man on social media in hopes of someone identifying him, so she can thank him The damage after the fire broke out in the backyard The homeowner said she is forever grateful for the stranger’s quick thinking, believing the outcome could have been far worse without him.  'You're an angel. You saved our lives, and I'm really thankful for everything that you did,' Shabtai told Fox 5 Las Vegas. 'You didn't have to stop. You could have driven by and said, probably someone already called it in. But no, you took the time, and you woke us up, and you're a hero,' she added.
