The divorce nearly broke me financially. My ex-husband and I had to sell our family home, split our savings and start again. It took years of budgeting, saying no to holidays and working longer than I wanted, but eventually I managed to buy a modest apartment outright. For the first time in years, I sleep well knowing I have somewhere secure to live. Three years ago, I met a wonderful man. He's kind, funny and we've talked about spending the rest of our lives together. The problem is, he wants us to sell my apartment, combine our money and buy a bigger home together. He says it's the natural next step and that if we're serious about each other, we should be building a future together. But all I hear is the voice in my head saying don't trust this. His children think I'm being selfish because I'm protecting 'my' assets instead of 'our' future. I don't know if I'm being sensible or simply letting my past dictate my future.
