Musk Snubs French Authorities’ Summon Amid X Investigation
Casablanca – Elon Musk and X’s former CEO Linda Yaccarino had failed to appear for the scheduled voluntary interviews, the AFP reported. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that it has “taken note of the absence” of those summoned, though officials emphasized that their failure to show up is not an obstacle to the continuation of the probe.
Musk had been summoned by French prosecutors for a voluntary interview in Paris this Monday as part of the ongoing criminal investigation into his social media platform, X.
French authorities are looking into a wide range of suspected offenses, including the distribution of child sexual abuse material and the creation of non-consensual sexual deepfakes via the platform’s Grok chatbot.
The probe was first launched in early 2025 after reports surfaced regarding X’s recommended content. It has since expanded significantly. In February, the Paris prosecutor’s cybercrime unit raided the company’s offices. Investigators are specifically concerned about Grok’s ability to edit images of women and children to create deepfake imagery, as well as suspected fraudulent data extraction by an organized group.
Musk has previously dismissed the entire investigation as a “political attack,” while Yaccarino called it a “political vendetta against Americans.” Yaccarino was also summoned to appear before the Paris Court of Justice alongside Musk.
New tension surfaced on Saturday when the Wall Street Journal reported that the US Justice Department sent a letter to French authorities refusing to assist with the investigation. The US reportedly accused France of misusing the American justice system. “Indeed, this needs to stop,” Musk responded to the news on X.

Musk skipping the Paris meeting is not his first time dodging legal proceedings. He previously failed to attend a court-ordered appearance in Los Angeles in September 2024 regarding an SEC investigation into his takeover of Twitter.
While X has officially labeled the allegations baseless and a threat to free speech, the platform continues to face a wave of regulatory and legal pressure across the UK and the European Union.
