Morocco’s Direct Housing Aid Reaches Nearly 97,000 Beneficiaries
Agadir – Morocco’s Secretary of State for Housing, Adib Benbrahim, announced on Monday that 96,948 people have benefited from the country’s direct housing support program since its launch.
“The housing program which was launched covering the period between 2022 and 2028, has received around 220,000 applications from citizens, of which 96,948 beneficiaries have successfully received support,” Benbrahim said during the session of the House of Representatives.
He also explained that Morocco shifted its public policy, with financial aid now granted directly to citizens rather than to real estate developers. This reform aims to improve transparency and safety in the allocation of housing aid.
Beyond direct aid, Benbrahim also pointed to the progress under Morocco’s long-running Cities Without Slums program.
The number of households targeted by the initiative has grown significantly, rising from 270,000 in 2004 to 496,000 by the end of September 2025.
“This represents a progress rate of more than 83% up to September 2025, with 496,000 households targeted overall and 370,000 cases treated. A total of 62 cities have been declared slum-free,” he added.
Regarding unsafe housing conditions, the Secretary of State said that 16,466 buildings deemed at risk of collapse were treated during the current government’s term, benefiting nearly 31,957 households.
Benbrahim attributed this progress to stronger intervention by urban agencies, including the mobilization of additional resources to conduct assessments, carry out censuses, and accelerate the processing of critical housing cases.
“The Urban Agency has also been activated. The Minister explained that, since 2019, the agency has been provided with the necessary resources, enabling it to carry out inventory work and technical assessments,” he explained.
