Tetouan – Morocco has launched a new system to modernize the sorting and distribution of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates.

The initiative was officially launched on Wednesday in Bouskoura by Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh at a sorting center run by Barid Al-Maghrib, in partnership with the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA).

The reform introduces a fully digital and automated process for handling and delivering these documents.

Authorities say it will significantly reduce processing times and improve access to services nationwide.

Previously, driving licenses and registration certificates were processed at around 75 regional and provincial centers managed by NARSA.

These centers often faced heavy pressure, as staff handled both document processing and other road safety duties.

Under the new system, delivery times are expected to drop from about two months to less than one week.

Citizens will also be able to choose where to receive their documents through a network of more than 700 distribution points, including branches of Al Barid Bank and Barid Cash.

Speaking at the launch, Kayouh said the reform marks an important step in improving services for citizens.

He added that around 1.5 million documents are expected to be distributed in 2025, with a long-term target of reaching 3 million documents through 1,500 distribution points.

The reform is also expected to address challenges in rural areas, where long delays and travel costs have often affected users.

For his part, NARSA Director General Benacer Boulaajoul said the new system is part of a broader digital transformation strategy.

He noted that the goal is to reduce human intervention and limit the need for citizens to travel.

With the new sorting process, documents will be handled immediately after receipt, reducing sorting and dispatch time from more than 30 days to a maximum of three days.

Officials also announced a second phase of the project, which will extend the system to additional services, including vehicle registrations completed through car dealerships and driving licenses issued to new drivers after passing their exams.

Fouad Zaidi, head of Barid Media, said the operation relies on automated processes and coordinated efforts across Barid Al-Maghrib’s logistics and financial services units.

The launch ceremony was attended by several officials, including the governor of Nouaceur province Jalal Benhayoun and the CEO of Barid Al-Maghrib Ahmed Amin Benjelloun Touimi.

The event included a guided tour of the facility and a live demonstration of the new sorting system.
