Morocco Joins WIPO Launch of Global AI Infrastructure Initiative
Agadir – Amal Al-Falah Al-Sagroshni, Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, represented Morocco at last week’s opening session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The event saw the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII) initiative.
This international initiative is in line with the national vision, which places digital transformation, innovation, and artificial intelligence at the heart of the country’s development.
Speaking at the event, Al-Sagroshni highlighted Morocco’s efforts to boost its national ecosystem in research, innovation, and training. She cited structured programs like the “AI Made in Morocco” initiative, which she noted aims to support the development of AI solutions for businesses, startups, and research institutions.
The minister also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to promoting responsible artificial intelligence, which would contribute to value creation and sustainable development.
She highlighted the need to strengthen international cooperation while ensuring transparency, traceability of digital content, and protection of intellectual property rights.
Global initiative to address AI and intellectual property
The AIII initiative, which WIPO launched on March 17, is designed as a global dialogue platform on the technical and operational challenges affecting intellectual property systems in the context of AI.
The AIII initiative does not aim to create any legal standards. Rather, it offers an opportunity for creators, intellectual property holders, AI creators, and experts to share knowledge on how to address intellectual property issues.
AIII centers discussions on technical tools and systems such as watermarking, metadata, digital identifiers, and content recognition technologies that can assist in the identification of ownership, rights management, and differentiation between human- and AI-generated works.
To assist in this endeavor, WIPO is creating a Technical Exchange Network of experts from the private sector, academia, and civil society to assist in identifying solutions to problems in the development of AI-related infrastructure.
The overall aim of this initiative is to support WIPO member states in their decision-making process while at the same time fostering cooperation among various stakeholders in this ever-changing technology environment.
Al-Sagroshni concluded her address by reiterating that Morocco is still committed to contributing to international efforts that will build an innovative, inclusive, and secure digital ecosystem that is consistent with the goals of sustainable development.
