Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) forecasts heavy thunderstorms today and Saturday in several provinces.

The weather alert expects rainfall between 20 and 30 millimeters, with a risk of hail from Friday afternoon to Saturday, 6 a.m. This weather, with a risk of hail, is expected to affect the provinces of Jerada, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taza, Figuig, and Driouch.

The same weather conditions are also forecast in Nador and Taourirt.

Morocco witnessed a few days of hot weather, which affected several provinces in the past few days, bringing temperatures to more than 27 degrees in Rabat and other areas.

This weather ended months of breeze and heavy rainfall that nourished the country’s crops and dams.

Recent data from authorities said water reserves continue to show strong momentum.

As of April 20, the overall filling rate of Morocco’s dams has reached 75.7%, with a total volume of 13 billion square meters.

The number represents an increase of about 94% compared to the same period last year.

Morocco’s weather continues to witness instability, as temperatures forecast show moderate and breezy weather compared to the same period last year.

Several videos documented the changes that the Moroccan landscape witnessed compared to the previous years, attributing the situation to the heavy rainfalls that the country experienced since mid-November.

Morocco’s government stated that the rainfall helped Morocco end seven years of drought, which impacted not only the crops, but also water reserves and livestock.

According to estimates from the Minister of Agriculture Ahmed El Bouari, Morocco is expecting a significant rise in its agricultural output, with a projected cereal harvest of around 90 million quintals this season.

He recalled production did not exceed 44 million quintals in the previous season.
