Michael Owen to star in new fly-on-the-wall Amazon Prime documentary

Michael Owen is set to star in a new fly-on-the-wall documentary with Amazon Prime.

The series, titled "Meet the Owens", lands on the streaming platform on August 28 and has been produced by Whisper.

Cameras trail the former Liverpool and England striker as he navigates daily life running his sprawling 170-acre racehorse operation in Cheshire.

The show also features his wife Louise and all four of their children - James, Emily, Jessica, and Gemma, who became a household name through her appearance on Love Island.

The trailer closes with the former striker celebrating after successfully flipping a pancake onto a plate.

Owen made clear that horse racing is now his driving passion, stating: "Football was my life, but now it's horse racing.

"All of us are really passionate about horses."

The trailer shows daughter Gemma being put through her paces as she works towards securing a ride at Goodwood.

The show's format draws parallels to "At Home with the Furys", the Prime Video series that showed the chaotic household of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Like that programme, "Meet the Owens" aims to blend celebrity with natural moments, offering a window into the behind-the-scenes of a famous sporting family.

Owen established Manor House Stables while still playing professionally, purchasing the Cheshire site and subsequently entering a partnership with Betfair co-founder Andrew Black.

The yard boasts cutting-edge facilities, with more than 100 boxes, a substantial uphill gallop, and a swimming pool designed specifically for horses.

Classic-winning trainer Hugo Palmer took up the resident trainer role in 2022, succeeding Tom Dascombe, who had held the position for a dozen years.

Owen has already tasted notable success as a yard owner - his horse Brown Panther claimed victory at Royal Ascot in 2011 before going on to land the Irish St Leger three years later.
