Jason Clark / Getty Images Share articleThe Miami Dolphins traded down one spot and selected Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor with the No. 12 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday. He was the third offensive tackle taken. The Dolphins traded the No. 11 pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for their Nos. 12, 177 and 180 selections. The 20-year-old Proctor was a three-year starter at Alabama, where he improved each year at left tackle. In 2025, Proctor earned All-America honors and the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the top blocker in the SEC. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Proctor planned to transfer to his home-state Hawkeyes after Nick Saban retired from Alabama in 2024. However, a few months later, Proctor changed course and returned to Tuscaloosa, where he played two more seasons under new coach Kalen DeBoer. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Proctor came in at 6-foot-6 and 352 pounds. Proctor ranked No. 19 in Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide: “With his physical traits, Proctor flashes dominance when he plays on time. He has the size and movement skills to engulf defenders when in rhythm as a pass blocker. However, he struggles to negotiate space and understand his leverage, which leads to erratic depth points and oversets. It is a similar story in the run game — talent isn’t the issue. He plays heavy-handed and creates good extension, but his body posture and cohesiveness are still developing. “Proctor is big, strong and explosive, which is an exciting foundation for an offensive lineman, but that optimism should be curbed until his discipline and technique catch up. He has starting-caliber upside at left tackle, although some teams believe moving to guard would be best for his pro career.” Boasts an exciting foundation, but needs his discipline and technique to catch up. What an anonymous coach had to say about Proctor in Bruce Feldman’s mock draft: “He’s a behemoth,” said a secondary coach who faced Alabama early in the season. “He’s so huge, but we kind of walked away and were like, ‘eh.’ Our guy got after him pretty good. Does he have the feet to play against a Myles Garrett or T.J. Watt? I don’t know. He might be better as a guard.” This is tough. As an athlete, Proctor is one of the best in this class – regardless of his position. Mutant at 6-8, 350 pounds, Proctor could blossom into a dominant force in the NFL. Today, however, he’s a long way from that. He was very inconsistent on the field at Alabama and might have to move inside to guard in the NFL. He’s also a player who has had weight concerns in the past. Proctor’s weight has pushed well north of 350 pounds in the past and if he can’t mature quickly, this might be messy for Miami. Possibly a great pick. But there’s bust potential here, too, due to his inconsistency and weight concerns. Grade: B- Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms
