Melbourne Metro Train delays after man is struck and killed

By CAITLIN POWELL - NEWS REPORTER and ASHLEY NICKEL, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 06:38, 18 August 2026 | Updated: 06:52, 18 August 2026 A person has died after being struck by a train at Blackburn railway station in Melbourne.  The incident occurred at Platform 1 just after 2pm on Tuesday, prompting Metro Trains to suspend services in both directions. Emergency services are at the scene in response to the 'self-harm' incident.  'Passengers are advised that due to an emergency services request, buses are being organised to replace Belgrave and Lilydale trains between Box Hill and Ringwood Stations,' a Transport Victoria alert said. This will include bus stops at Box Hill, Laburnum, Blackburn, Nunawading, Mitcham, Heatherdale and Ringwood. 'It is not known at this stage when normal services will resume,' the alert said. 'We encourage passengers travelling on this line today to plan ahead, allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative travel plans, such as altering your departure time or using a different mode of public transport.'  The notice said Transport Victoria 'sincerely apologises' for the disruption and thanked passengers for their patience.  Metro Trains suggested passengers travelling on Tuesday afternoon leave an additional 40 minutes for their journey. The line is still operating between Flinders Street and Box Hill.
