Massive March in Rabat Denounces Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners, Reaffirms Solidarity with Palestine
Rabat – Thousands of people marched in Rabat on Sunday in a large-scale demonstration condemning the blatant aggressions against Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli detention facilities, while voicing continued public support for Palestine.
The protest in Rabat brought together a wide range of political parties, trade unions and civil society groups. Demonstrators strongly opposed a proposed Israeli bill linked to the execution of Palestinian prisoners, associated with Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
From early morning, crowds gathered at Bab El Had before moving along Avenue Mohammed V toward Rabat Ville railway station. Participants carried Palestinian flags and banners expressing solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s ongoing bloody genocide in Gaza.
The march saw participation from several political and labor organizations, including the Justice and Development Party, the Party of Progress and Socialism, the Movement of Unity and Reform, and the Moroccan National Labor Union.
These groups had jointly called for mobilization, describing the demonstration as an expression of public solidarity with Palestinians and prisoners in particular.
Slogans and political messaging
Throughout the march, participants chanted slogans condemning detention conditions in Israeli prisons and criticizing access restrictions imposed on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Speakers and participants also reiterated opposition to normalization with Israel, while expressing solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing genocide in the region.
Continued mobilization
Rabat has repeatedly hosted large demonstrations in support of Gaza and the Palestinian cause in recent years, condemning the genocidal crimes committed by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) against Palestinians.
The march is a reaffirmation of Morocco’s support for the Palestinian resistance against Israel’s genocidal campaign.
Since October 7, 2023, Gaza has faced relentless Israeli massacres marked by daily mass killings, starvation, and unyielding violence.
