Marseille 'tired' of Mason Greenwood as ex-Man Utd star fined for behaviour

Marseille are becoming 'frustrated' with Mason Greenwood's 'lack of effort' and even 'basic gratitude' in another alarming revelation about the former Manchester United forward. Greenwood, 24, joined Marseille in 2024, signing a five-year deal after United agreed to offload him for a sum of around £27million. Since his switch to France, the England international has delivered some eye-catching statistics, netting 47 goals and providing 16 assists across 79 outings. Yet it's his conduct away from the pitch that has sparked concern, with Marseille becoming irritated with Greenwood for not having sufficient commitment and failing to show gratitude, according to L'Equipe. It's claimed that Greenwood has stayed in a ' world of his own', unwilling to participate in French lessons required by the club as English is used in the changing room. Club officials are 'tired' of attempting to explain matters to him, even resorting to fines in a bid to alter his attitude. There is now reportedly a club-wide divide emerging, and his relationship with sporting director Medhi Benatia has deteriorated, with the two men said to be 'completely ignoring' each other daily. Greenwood is believed to be anticipating the inevitable conclusion before an exit, but that isn't expected to be 'straightforward'. Marseille had hoped to turn a profit from a future sale of Greenwood, but his value has dropped owing to his inconsistent performances in the second half of the campaign. A return to the Premier League is thought to be out of the question for Greenwood, though there is reported interest from Serie A and La Liga . Greenwood's last goal came in a 1-0 victory over Toulouse on March 7, and he endured a difficult outing in a 3-0 thrashing at relegated Nantes in their most recent fixture. He was relegated to the bench for a home clash against Nice last month, fuelling speculation that he has had a falling out with head coach Habib Beye. Beye, however, dismissed such rumours, insisting that Greenwood has been hampered by a minor injury. "Mason we have looked at since the start of the week, he is very limited by the injury from Lille," Beye said. "It's been two games that he's played with a lot of pain, we can't put him in danger." Marseille and Greenwood are next in action when they make the trip to Le Havre on Sunday, in what is a pivotal fixture for the club as they bid to secure European football for next season.
