Marcus Rashford sweating on Barcelona future after England team-mate’s agent meeting

Manchester United have been dealt a fresh blow amid concerns that a permanent deal with Barcelona for Marcus Rashford may prove unachievable, with the La Liga giants reportedly eyeing alternative targets. Rashford's future grows ever more uncertain as his loan spell at the Camp Nou moves towards its conclusion. United sent Rashford to Barcelona on loan after the England international made clear his wish to depart Old Trafford. It had since been widely anticipated that Rashford would leave United on a permanent basis this summer, with Barcelona the most probable destination. The Spanish giants hold the option to sign Rashford outright for £26million, yet reports suggest Barca are yet to enter into any discussions regarding a long-term move for the United forward. Now, a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Barcelona are scouring the left wing market for potential alternatives to Rashford ahead of this summer. One name highlighted as a possible target for Barcelona is Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, who recently teamed up with Rashford in the England squad and could find himself his international colleague once again at this summer's World Cup. The report suggests, however, that Newcastle's asking price of €85million (£73.5million) could present a significant stumbling block for Barcelona in their pursuit of the forward Everton star. Reports in Spain earlier this week also claimed that Gordon's representatives were spotted meeting Barca's sporting director Deco and football co-ordinator Bojan Krkic. Rashford has had a remarkable loan stint at Barcelona this season, netting 13 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions. Barcelona are not alone in being linked with a permanent swoop for the 28-year-old this summer, with the likes of Arsenal , Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa all touted as possible destinations in the Premier League , while Bayern Munich have also been thrown into the mix. Earlier this year, Barcelona president Joan Laporta made his intentions abundantly clear, expressing both his own desire and the club's wish for Rashford to commit to the Camp Nou on a long-term basis. "We will try, in Barca's interest, to ensure that Marcus Rashford can continue with us beyond this season," Laporta said in March. "Marcus is performing very well with assists and goals, we're happy.
