Man Utd and Marcus Rashford 'set for talks' very soon as new Barcelona proposal emerges

Manchester United are poised to restart talks with Barcelona over Marcus Rashford as soon as next week, with the Spanish giants eager to arrange another loan switch. While the forward has shone during his stint at the Camp Nou, club hierarchy and fans remain split over making the move permanent. Rashford, 28, joined Barca on loan from United last summer and has registered 14 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. Last Sunday, the England international bent in a stunning free‐kick to help Barca defeat Real Madrid 2‐0 and seal the La Liga title. He featured for 64 minutes before being replaced by Raphinha. Afterwards, Rashford disclosed he would like to prolong his time at the club , though he conceded he is uncertain what will unfold this summer. "I'm not a magician, but if I was, I would stay [at Barcelona ]," he said. "We will see. I came here to win. "This is a wonderful team, they're going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special." Barcelona have stalled on activating the permanent clause in Rashford's loan deal and, according to The Independent, are poised to renegotiate the terms owing to their tight finances. Discussions are reportedly expected to resume next week as they seek to structure an agreement, with a further loan described as a 'possibility'. However, Mirror Sport understands United have no desire to sanction another loan, with the club eager to strip Rashford's considerable wages from their books. United are expected to rebuff Barcelona's efforts to extend the loan and remain firm on the agreed transfer fee - meaning Hansi Flick's side must pay £26m or risk losing the forward altogether. Barca are actively searching for a new left winger and have pinpointed several targets alongside Rashford, with club director Deco and manager Flick reportedly not fully sold on the England international and weighing up their alternatives. I think his season was fantastic. He has good numbers, and I am very grateful that and appreciate it greatly. "At the end of the season, we will analyse everything, and then we will see what will happen." Given Rashford's fruitful stint in Spain, that fee would arguably represent exceptional value . And should the La Liga champions fail to seal a deal, the 28 year old looks certain to attract attention from elsewhere. The World Cup could play into United's hands if Rashford is afforded the opportunity to shine on the world stage. He has been a regular fixture in England squads under Thomas Tuchel. Mirror Sport has previously reported that United would be optimistic about commanding a fee in the region of £50m for the academy product. A return to Old Trafford isn't being considered, even if Michael Carrick assumes the head coach role. Rashford hasn't featured for United since December 2024 and even witnessed his No.10 shirt passed to Matheus Cunha after losing favour with Ruben Amorim . The former United manager famously said he'd rather put his 63‐year‐old goalkeeping coach on the bench than a player who doesn't give maximum effort. Rashford concluded last season on loan at Aston Villa and was compelled to train separately from the first‐team squad in the summer before his Barcelona switch.
