Armed police were deployed to the scene at 10.57pm last night by the ambulance service.
It came amid reports a man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head on Gaythorne Road at the junction of Parsonage Road, West Bowling.
Initial enquiries suggest the firearm was discharged from a white BMW.

West Yorkshire Police have said the BMW was found burnt out nearby on Brompton Road.
The force also described the shooting as a "targeted attack".
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates, of the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“This is a very serious incident where a lethal weapon has been used on the streets of Bradford," he said.
“From initial enquiries we believe this to be a targeted attack.
"Extensive enquiries remain ongoing.
“We are working with our local neighbourhood policing colleagues to provide reassurance, and there will be a large police presence and extra uniformed patrols over the coming hours.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area last night who saw anything suspicious to come forward and provide information."
