Man faces 43 charges after he is accused of creating explicit AI deepfake posters of eight women and displaying them in public

By CAITLIN POWELL - NEWS REPORTER Published: 22:09, 23 July 2026 | Updated: 22:09, 23 July 2026 A 52-year-old man has been charged with 43 offences after he allegedly used artificial intelligence to create posters in the Lockyer Valley region depicting eight women engaged in sexual acts.  Queensland Police were made aware of posters displayed at multiple locations on May 26, including one spotted in a public venue in Gatton. The images allegedly featured the victims' faces superimposed onto bodies of women shown performing explicit sexual acts.  The women's full names, social media usernames and employment details were also included, alongside false claims stating they were sex workers, police allege. After weeks of investigation into posters from as early as February 2021, officers searched a home in Cleveland, about 31km southeast of Brisbane.  In arrest footage published by police, detectives were seen removing a firearm from a cupboard and placing it on a mattress next to three lightsabers and a baseball bat.  Officers also pulled electronics out from a chest of drawers which held a television and at least six video game controllers. The man, from Cleveland, has been charged with 43 offences, including 27 counts of distributing intimate images and six counts of unlawful stalking.  He is also charged with four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, four counts of using a postal service to menace, harass or cause offence. He faces one count each of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence and authority required to possess explosives. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 19. Police said that, as of Thursday night, detectives have identified eight alleged victims. The investigation continues.  'No one should have to experience this type of offending,' Ipswich Detective Acting Inspector Tim Martin said. 'The victims in this matter were subjected to deeply distressing and highly personal attacks through the creation and public display of AI-generated intimate images.  'Artificial intelligence is an emerging technology but using it to create and distribute abusive or degrading material is not beyond the reach of police.  'We will investigate these matters thoroughly and hold offenders to account.'
