The Blue Oval has issued a recall notice for 741,195 vehicles over fears that certain models could roll away, increasing the risk of an accident.
It states: "In the event of transmission park system damage, the ability of the transmission park feature to hold the vehicle if the parking brake is not applied may be affected."
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) outlines that the transmission park pawl may engage while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in park system damage.
As a remedy, dealers will update the powertrain control module software and inspect and replace any damaged transmission components as necessary.
The recall impacts certain 2018-2021 Navigator, Expedition, 2020-2021 Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2021 F-150 vehicles.
Affected vehicles are built from January 8, 2020, to October 8, 2021, and equipped with park-by-wire functionality and 10R80 transmissions.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters explaining the safety risks in August, with further remedy letters expected to be sent in April next year.

Jaguar Land Rover
More than 250,000 vehicles are being recalled by the iconic British marque in the United States, according to the NHTSA.
It warns that an air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of an injury in the event of an accident.
The driver's air bag clockspring connector may corrode, which can cause the air bag not to deploy as intended.
JLR said certain 2020-2026 Land Rover Defender, 2021-2026 Discovery, and 2022-2026 Range Rover vehicles are at risk.
Dealers will apply a protective lubricant gel to the driver's air bag connector terminals, with all remedies completed for free.
In a notice to dealers, JLR said it was committed to "delivering vehicles to our customers of the highest quality, complete with the very latest hardware and software".
Hyundai
The South Korean manufacturer is recalling 96,310 2025-2026 Tucson, Tucson Hybrid, and Tucson Plug-In Hybrid vehicles.
A software error could lead to the instrument panel failing to display, preventing critical safety information from appearing.
This includes the speedometer and warning lights, resulting in an increased risk of a crash.
The vehicles will also fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101 (Controls and Displays).
