أدين الأرجنتيني أليخاندرو غارناتشو لاعب تشيلسي بتجاوز السرعة القانونية أثناء مغادرته مقر تدريبات ناديه السابق مانشستر يونايتد، وذلك قبل أيام قليلة من رحيله عن صفوف الفريق. وكان الجناح الأرجنتيني البالغ من العمر 21 عاماً يقود سيارته السوداء من طراز "أودي آر إس 3" حين التقطته كاميرا مراقبة السرعة بالقرب من منشأة كارينغتون التابعة لمانشستر يونايتد في منطقة مانشستر الكبرى. وقاد غارناتشو سيارته بسرعة 50 ميلاً في الساعة في منطقة حدها الأقصى 40 ميلاً في الساعة، في تاريخ 26 أغسطس، أي قبل أربعة أيام فقط من توقيعه لنادي تشيلسي في صفقة بلغت قيمتها 40 مليون جنيه إسترليني. ومن خلال محاميه في محكمة ليفربول الجزائية، اعترف غارناتشو بالسرعة الزائدة وقدم اعتذاراً رسمياً، موضحاً أنه "يشعر بالحرج" مما حدث. وبناءً على ذلك، فرضت القاضية جين هاينز غرامة مالية قدرها 660 جنيهاً إسترلينياً، وألزمته بدفع 120 جنيهاً إسترلينياً كمصاريف تقاضي، بالإضافة إلى 264 جنيهاً إسترلينياً كتعويض إضافي، مع إضافة ثلاث نقاط جزاء إلى رخصة قيادته، حسبما ذكرت هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية "بي.بي.سي".
