Lindsay Clancy's bloody injuries are laid bare to jury in her children's murder trial as medic says she was 'critically ill': Live updates

Clancy killed her three young children - Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan - inside her family's Duxbury home on January 24, 2023, before attempting to take her own life.  The 35-year-old has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, arguing she was suffering from severe postpartum depression and psychosis at the time. She donned a cream colored blouse as she sat in a wheelchair behind the defense table. Her parents, Mike and Paula Musgrove, are seated behind her in the courtroom. They have been there every day of the trial.  The first witness, a physician's assistant named Eitan Negri, testified that he was working in the trauma and surgical ICU at Brigham and Women’s Hospital back in January 2023. On January 25 - one day after the murders - he treated Clancy's multiple injuries, and he was assigned to 'repair work’ on the lacerations on both wrists and a superficial laceration on her neck. According to Negri, Clancy's right wrist had a few lacerations, including one that was 3cm deep. The cut on her left wrist was 2cm deep, he said. None of the wounds went deeper than the fatty tissue beneath her skin.  During cross-examination, Negri agreed that Clancy was 'critically ill' in the hospital. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, also pointed out that his client coded in the hospital and went into cardiac arrest.   Eitan Negri, a physician's assistant who previously worked in the trauma and surgical ICE unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in January 2023, was the first witness to testify. Under cross-examination, Reddington asked psychiatrist Segal Shah, if in her experience, Clancy was an ‘honest patient.’ She confirmed that she was. Clancy didn’t claim to have hallucinations or try to exaggerate her condition for legal reasons, she confirmed. The psychiatrist also said that she was aware that Clancy had postpartum issues. She said that people can plan and act on plans in a state of psychosis, and that they can also continue to communicate with people. The prosecution has suggested that Clancy planned to kill the children - and that this indicates she was not in a state of psychosis. Reddington then reeled off the list of medications that Clancy was prescribed by psychiatrists before the killings from September 2022 and January 2023. The psychiatrist began seeing Clancy on January 29, 2023. She asked her if she was having hallucinations or delusions or suicidal and homicidal intent. Clancy said she was not. She had, however, reported hallucinations overnight to another nurse after undergoing serious spinal surgery and waking up from anesthesia. Shah was required to assess whether Clancy was capable of making the decision to change her healthcare proxy from her husband Patrick Clancy to her parents Mike and Paula Musgrove. Clancy's parents sat listening to the psychiatrist's testimony inside the courtroom - their presence every day a marker of their support.
