A lifesaving defibrillator has been fitted at a Glasgow railway station half a year after a teenage army cadet used emergency first aid to rescue a collapsed child.

Jordan Kerr, 15, was making his way back from cadet training in January when he heard cries for assistance on the platform at Drumchapel station.

The Drumchapel High School pupil discovered a 10-year-old child who had become unwell and was experiencing breathing difficulties.

Drawing upon first aid knowledge acquired through the Glasgow and Lanarkshire Battalion Army Cadet Force just twelve months prior, he carried out CPR whilst waiting for paramedics to reach the scene.

The youngster was transported to hospital and subsequently made a full recovery.

Relatives attributed Jordan's swift response as crucial in preserving the child's life.

ScotRail has now installed the emergency equipment at the station as part of a broader deployment of such devices across Scottish railway stations.

Rather than seeking recognition for his actions, the teenager immediately focused his efforts on enhancing safety measures at the location.

Within days, he initiated a petition demanding the installation of a defibrillator at Drumchapel station, arguing that rapid access to such equipment during medical emergencies could prove the difference between survival and death.

The campaign attracted support from more than 1,000 people who signed the petition.

Despite receiving widespread acclaim online, with hundreds describing him as heroic, Jordan maintained his focus on securing the equipment that could protect future passengers.

His persistence has now achieved its objective, with the device successfully installed at the station.

"I feel great it's here, it's been fitted. I feel amazing about myself, very proud of myself," he said.

"It can save someone's life in a heartbeat. I think it's a great piece of equipment for ScotRail to have."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Reflecting on the January incident, he noted how the device could have provided even more effective assistance.

"When I was saving that boy's life, instead of doing chest compressions, this could have done much better," he said.

The cadet expressed gratitude to the rail operator for installing the equipment. "I'd like to thank ScotRail for that," he said.

"It was very good of them to put another defibrillator onto the network. I'm glad they have done it.

"It's made me very happy because it can save someone's life."

Phil Campbell, ScotRail's customer operations director, commended the youngster's response to the emergency situation.

"Jordan's actions at Drumchapel station were nothing short of heroic," he said.

"At just 15 years old, he showed remarkable composure, courage, and selflessness in an emergency situation.

"What makes this story even more inspiring is that Jordan didn't ask for praise. Instead, he asked for something that would help others.

"Everyone at ScotRail is incredibly proud to recognise Jordan's actions. He is a credit to himself, his family, and his community."
