Liberal leader Angus Taylor refuses to work with Pauline Hanson's One Nation - after she urged them to come together

Published: 23:33, 9 July 2026 | Updated: 00:09, 10 July 2026 Liberal leader Angus Taylor has ruled out working with One Nation after Pauline Hanson urged the Coalition to join forces to defeat Labor. The Opposition Leader said his sole focus was removing Labor from government, but insisted One Nation was 'not the solution' during a speech at the Sydney Institute last night. 'One Nation claims to offer a way out of our national malaise. In reality, they would only make things worse,' he said. 'Long on rhetoric but short on substance, One Nation's offering is a random grab bag of poorly defined, contradictory and constantly changing positions that leave no clear sense of who they are or what they stand for,' he said.  Following up on his comments on ABC News Breakfast, Taylor said defeating Labor remained his sole focus but insisted One Nation was not the solution. 'Our plan is to get rid of a rotten Labor government -I want us to be in government in our own right.' He claimed One Nation would rack up 'an extra trillion dollars of spending over 10 years' and branded it a 'one-person show'.  In a video posted from London, Senator Hanson hit back at Taylor's comments. Angus Taylor has ruled out working with One Nation after Pauline Hanson urged the Coalition to join forces to defeat Labor Pauline Hanson said she was very disappointed with Taylor's comments   'I'm very disappointed with this. Angus, I'm not your enemy. 'We both need to get rid of the Labor, the Greens government, that toxic government that's done so much damage to this country.' She urged Taylor to put his differences aside. 'The people of Australia are crying out for change. Listen to the people, Angus and work with me. Stop denigrating One Nation and work together.' Support for the Coalition has crashed to record lows in recent opinion polls and it firmly trails One Nation.  One Nation is polling at 28 per cent in the latest Newspoll, ahead of the Coalition on 19 per cent, while Labor leads with 31 per cent.
