Lamine Yamal: ‘Giving Up Is Not An Option’ After Barcelona’s Champions League Exit

Rabat – Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal has sparked widespread reaction after posting an emotional message following the club’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Atlético Madrid.

The game was played yesterday, April 14th, at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in Madrid. It was the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final, in which Barcelona was knocked out of the competition after failing to secure a 3-1 result against Atlético Madrid, which was needed to overcome their 2-0 defeat against Los Colchoneros in the first leg.

In a post, Yamal expressed disappointment over the result but insisted that the defeat is only part of a longer journey. He said the team “gave everything,” while acknowledging that it “was not enough,” describing the setback as “just part of the path” toward reaching the top level of European football.

He also emphasized that Barcelona players are fully aware of the challenges ahead and the difficulty of competing at the highest level, noting that opponents will not make things easy for them. However, he was clear in his message. “Giving up is not an option.”

Yamal added that the squad remains highly motivated to bounce back, stressing that every mistake must be treated as a lesson for future improvement. He expressed confidence that Barcelona will return to where it belongs, recalling a principle he was taught from a young age: “A man’s word is always kept.”

He concluded his message with a powerful statement of identity and determination: “We are Barcelona… and we will be back.”
