ABD'nin ada ülkesine askeri müdahalede bulunmak için bahane aradığını savunan Diaz-Canel, "ABD, bizi kendisi için 'olağanüstü ve alışılmadık' bir tehdit olarak tanımıyor. Bu, Amerikan halkının duygusu değil, ABD hükümetinin bize saldırmak için kullandığı bir bahane olduğundan eminiz. İnsan kendine şunu soruyor: Tehdit nedir? Bu tehdidin olağanüstü yanı nedir? Ben her gün bu soruyu kendime soruyorum, Küba'ya yönelik askeri saldırıyı haklı çıkaracak hiçbir bahane, hiçbir neden yoktur." dedi. Diaz-Canel, ABD hükümetinin "faşist" bir hükümet olduğunu belirterek, "Dünyada soykırım eylemlerinin işlenmesinin nedeni budur, tıpkı Filistin halkına karşı işlenen soykırım gibi, Lübnan halkına karşı işlenen soykırım gibi. Uluslararası çatışmaları çözmek için saldırganlığa ve savaş diline başvurulmasının nedeni budur." diye konuştu. ABD'nin 3 Ocak'ta Venezuela'ya yönelik askeri müdahalesini hatırlatan Diaz-Canel, "Dünyayı yönetmek istiyorlar, hepimizi yönetmek istiyorlar, halklarımızı yönetmek istiyorlar, uluslarımızı yönetmek istiyorlar. Venezuela’ya karşı ne yapıldı? Medya aracılığıyla bir 'narko-devlet' anlatısı inşa edilmeye başlandı. Bolivar Devrimi’nin meşru başkanı Nicolas Maduro’yu siyasi ve medyatik olarak linç etmeye çalıştılar. Ardından Venezuela’ya deniz ablukası uyguladılar ve Karayip bölgesine son 20 yılın en büyük Amerikan askeri varlığını dayattılar. Medyanın dayatmasıyla Venezuela ulusuna saldırdılar ve meşru başkanı ile eşini kaçırıp ABD'de sahte bir yargılama kurguladılar." ifadelerini kullandı. Diaz-Canel, İran halkının ABD’nin saldırganlığına karşı "kahramanca" direndiğini ve İran’ın ne nükleer bombaya sahip olduğunu ne de böyle bir silahı kullanma tehdidinde bulunduğunu vurguladı. ABD’nin Küba halkının yaşadığı zorluklardan endişe duyulduğu yönündeki açıklamalarının tamamen "ironi" ve "safsata" olduğunun altını çizen Diaz-Canel, "Eğer bu kadar endişelilerse, o zaman ablukayı kaldırsınlar. Çünkü Küba halkının temel sorunları, bu ablukanın uzun yıllardır sürdürülmesinden kaynaklanıyor." şeklinde konuştu. Diaz-Canel, ABD’nin Venezuela’ya yönelik askeri müdahalesi sırasında Kübalı askerlerin kendilerinden sayıca ve teknolojik açıdan üstün ABD özel kuvvetlerine kahramanca direndiğini ve 5 dakikada sonuçlanması planlanan saldırının 45 dakikayı aştığını anlattı. ABD’nin ada ülkesine askeri müdahalede bulunması halinde bunun ağır sonuçları olacağını dile getiren Diaz-Canel, şunları kaydetti: "O 32 kişinin (çatışmaya giren askerlerin) örneğinin milyonlarca Kübalı ile çarpıldığı bir askeri saldırının Küba'da neler yaratacağını bir hayal edin. Bunu tüm sorumluluğumuzla söylüyoruz, savaşı istediğimiz için böyle konuşmuyoruz. Biz savaş istemiyoruz! Hatta ABD hükümeti ile ikili farklılıkların diyalog yoluyla çözülebileceğini her zaman dile getirdik ancak anlaşmamızı sağlayacak ve bizi çatışmadan uzaklaştıracak işbirliği alanları bulmak için bir niyet, bir ciddiyet olmalıdır.
