And as he takes to the screen with Hollywood icon Kiefer Sutherland, it’s clear those predictions about Scots actor Solly McLeod were bang on. McLeod, who grew up in Orkney before moving to London at the age of ten, stars alongside Sutherland in Brothers Under Fire. Sutherland plays an army captain whose squadron runs foul of a cartel while attending a comrade’s wedding in Mexico. A trailer shows McLeod’s character kicking off the dispute when he inadvertently insults one of the gang members. The movie is just one of several projects starring 26-year-old McLeod this year. He also stars in Anxious People alongside Angelina Jolie. His involvement in that sees him appear alongside Notting Hill star Rhys Ifans and Anna Maxwell Martin – best known for playing the lead in sitcom Motherland. He is also among the cast for upcoming film Practical Magic 2 – a sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Kidman and Bullock are reprising their roles as sisters Gillian and Sally Owens, respectively, who descend from a long line of witches. He has also been shooting scenes for a Channel 4 series called Careless, also starring fellow Scot and Harry Potter star Katie Leung, which focuses on the foster care system. Discussing McLeod’s prowess, Claire Mundell – executive producer on Careless – said: ‘Solly McLeod is a young man on the rise and at the top of his game. He’s got a very exciting year ahead with some major film appearances coming up.’ With his roster of fabulous films and TV shows, she couldn’t have been more right.
