A man from Cardiff who was released from prison in March ended up arrested again in April. Kieron Desmond, from Grangetown, ran away from police and threw a rucksack into a garden which was found to contain £2,000 worth of cannabis. Cardiff Crown Court heard how Desmond was seen wearing dark-coloured clothing and riding an electric motorcycle along Heol Trelai in Cardiff on April 10 when police attempted to stop him. At one point he parked close to a van and got off the motorcycle and ran away, throwing a rucksack he was carrying into a front garden. Prosecution barrister Pamela Kaiga told the court that officers managed to detain him and inside the bag they discovered 314 grams of cannabis, a lot in “deal-sized amounts” in clear snap bags. There was also £35 and an iPhone, which upon examination found messages relating to the sale of cannabis, and a list of addresses police presumed to be for customers. His house was also searched and officers found a number of “burner phones” and another tick list containing addresses and phone numbers. Desmond, 29, of Avondale Crescent, Grangetown, Cardiff, gave a "no comment" interview when questioned by police. He appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday having previously pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and being concerned with its supply, along with driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance. His barrister, Zoe Laugharne, said that his lifestyle was a “consequence of leaving home at the age of 16 with little support”. She added: “He got involved with the wrong crowd. He used time he spent in custody productively working on the wing as a cleaner. “He has previously had issues with alcohol and drug misuse but has been clean of both since he was remanded in custody.” Judge Christopher Felstead said: “What's fairly staggering to me is you were only released from custody on March 16 and by April 10 you were again arrested supplying drugs. “On April 10 you were seen by officers throwing a rucksack and within that rucksack was a considerable quantity of cannabis - about £2,000 worth.” Desmond was jailed for a year and four months and ordered to pay £187 victim surcharge. A forfeiture and destruction order has been made for the drugs. Get Cardiff news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here .
