Jose Mourinho on verge of Real Madrid appointment with final negotiations underway

Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid are in "final negotiations" for the Portuguese icon to return as their head coach. That is according to BBC Sport who have stated the current Benfica boss is the clear frontrunner for the role and is the only manager in discussions about taking over in the Spanish capital permanently. Alvaro Arbeloa has overseen the first-team since the sacking of Xabi Alonso back in January. The report states that Real president Florentino Perez first considered a Mourinho return just two days after Alonso left. Los Blancos have had an awful season with that compounded this weekend in the 2-0 defeat to Barcelona which saw their rivals win the La Liga title.
