Joanne McNally drops MAJOR hint on how far she'll go on Celebrity Traitors as she spills the beans to Ed Gamble about sneaky cigarettes with Jerry Hall... before admitting best pal Vogue Williams got one thing spot on!

Published: 22:51, 5 July 2026 | Updated: 22:51, 5 July 2026 Comedian Joanne McNally has spilled the beans on her behind-the-scenes antics in the new Celebrity Traitors series – including enjoying lots of fag breaks with Jerry Hall. Although McNally, famous for her My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast with Vogue Williams, has been told she can’t give away too much about the series, she did tell the Mail that Hall was ‘super glam, and super sound’. The 43-year-old quipped: ‘We shared a lot of cigarettes. I took up smoking just to hang out with her.’ And in a high-spirited interview with the Mail, McNally skirts dangerously close to spilling a whole lot of secret beans ahead of the upcoming series, which was filmed in May and will air in the coming months. She was speaking ahead of a joint new panel show called Unacceptable fronted by herself and also the comedian Ed Gamble who coincidentally is also a presenter on Celebrity Traitors.  Talking to her new co-host she reveals that she had been expecting to see Danny Dyer on the Traitors set, before being shut down by Ed with an alacrity that will have fans twitching. McNally also says she was hugely impressed with fellow Traitors star Ross Kemp, the former EastEnders actor and presenter of documentaries about hard men across the globe. He has stories about cartels and guns. 'I’d be saying, “I was in a restaurant having a kebab…” and he’d say, “I was in Venezuela with a gun to my head...” He’s great company.  'You wouldn’t mess with him, but he’s also a softie.’ Her best pal Vogue has already said that McNally can’t keep a secret to save her life. ‘I’ll lie,’ McNally admitted to the MoS. ‘But I’ll rat myself out almost immediately.’ The beloved BBC reality game show, which will air later this year, sees 21 stars head to the infamous Scottish castle in the Highlands for the chance to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 (€117k) for a charity of their choice. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the game follows the celebrity contestants – the majority of whom are known as Faithfuls – as they try to seek out the murderous Traitors among them, who kill off players in the middle of the night. McNally was speaking ahead of a joint new panel show called Unacceptable fronted by herself and also the comedian Ed Gamble who coincidentally is also a presenter on Celebrity Traitors. Traitors had already finished by the time they filmed Unacceptable – yet Joanne didn’t breathe a word of it to Ed.  ‘I knew you were in it,’ he tells her in an interview with the Mail. ‘I was astonished you didn’t say a thing.’ Their respective involvements in the show lead to much merriment today. While Ed is free to talk about his role, Joanne has been told she can’t give anything away.  They discuss hearing about the cast list (Ed is miffed he didn’t have advance notice; he found out that the likes of Jerry Hall, Ross Kemp, Bella Ramsay, Richard E Grant and James Blunt were en route to Scotland at the same time as everyone else). Joanne says even as she was entering the castle she was expecting to see Danny Dyer – who had been rumoured to be involved.  ‘I spent the whole time thinking he was going to be in it.’ Ed interjects: ‘He still might be…’ ‘Oh yes,’ says Joanne, backtracking, but too late. This suggests Joanne might be one to watch in Traitors, even though her best friend Vogue Williams has said Joanne can’t keep a secret to save her life. ‘I’ll lie,’ she admits. ‘But I’ll rat myself out almost immediately.’ Joanne told the Irish Mail on Sunday that Jerry Hall was ‘super glam, and super sound’. Unacceptable is built around debating opinions that many might think should have stayed firmly inside people’s heads. Gamble is the host while McNally is one team leader and Richard Ayoade is the other and the result of putting them all together is an incredibly mischievous show, according to critics. The format taps into the idea of the pub conversation that begins with somebody saying, ‘I know I shouldn’t say this but...’ One anything-goes debate involves McNally relaying a story about doing a pregnancy test in a cinema toilet aged 15. Unsure of how to collect the urine sample required, she used a Slush Puppie cup. ‘I’m sure every woman has a similar story,’ she laughs. McNally says Unacceptable can feel closer to a podcast than a panel show, as both McNally and Gamble started their careers on podcasts.  But she also says the new show makes her feel ‘legitimised as a comedian’. ‘I’ve finally got the nod from TV land, which I’ve been waiting quite a while for,’ she said. Gamble told the Mail: ‘The podcast is the thing that sells the most live tickets for you because people feel directly connected to you. ‘But I feel like I’m from a generation where getting on panel shows meant everything.’  Sorry we are not currently accepting comments on this article.
