Jet2 'test at security' alert to anyone who packs supermarket item in luggage

Jet2 has told passengers that packing a particular type of item, widely available at supermarkets , could mean spending extra time at security while checks are carried out. The issue came to light after a passenger with an upcoming flight with the airline enquired whether she could bring the item on board. Taking to X, the passenger, Andrea, asked: "@Jet2tweets Hi, I'm flying from UK to Spain. Am I allowed to take sachets of slim shakes with me? I've read conflicting advice." Jet2 replied: "Hi Andrea, thanks for reaching out. Will you be carrying these sachets in your hand luggage or hold luggage? ^Ellie." Andrea responded: "Hi, whichever bag that Jet2 allows me to carry them in." The airline replied: "You shouldn't have any issues with carrying sachets in either your hand or hold luggage . If you can send us a picture or link to the ones you're wanting to bring we can double-check this. ^Ellie." Andrea then shared a photo of the sachets, captioning it: " Tesco Slim meal replacement powder." Jet2 responded: "Thank you, Andrea. You shouldn't have any issues with carrying these in either your hand or hold luggage. If you were to carry them in your hand luggage, you may be asked to taste/test these at security. ^Ellie." Most airports advise travellers to pack food and powders in hold luggage wherever possible. While these items are generally permitted in hand luggage, they can obscure images on the X-ray machine. These items could also be mistaken for suspicious packages, so placing them in the hold will help minimise the need for further checks. Passengers who need to carry these items on board should aim to give themselves extra time at security, reports the Liverpool Echo . It's advised that passengers put large powders like protein powder and flour, and large makeup containers, in their checked luggage so they don't have to deal with security delays. In relation to 'food and powders', a statement on the site reads: "Food items and powders in your hand luggage can obstruct images on x-ray machines. Your bags may need to be checked again manually by security. You can put these items in your hold luggage to minimise delays." Certain countries have stringent policies in place concerning food and powder. As Heathrow Airport explains, if you are flying to the US, "restrictions are in place for passengers carrying powders of over 350ml (drinks can size) or 350g". It adds: "These items are prohibited from carriage in the cabin. Medical powders such as medicines, baby powders and human ashes are still permitted but subject to further checks. Passengers are asked to make sure items are carried in original packaging where possible with the seals intact and where appropriate proof of authenticity such as a prescription. "Powders purchased in duty free may be carried provided they are packaged in a security tamper evident bag (STEB) inside of which is a receipt proving the item has been purchased airside at an airport."
