Is this the end of Victoria's premier? Leadership rival tells Jacinta Allan he is challenging her - as her Labor mates demand she resign

Labor sources said factional leaders from the Socialist Left – the Premier's own faction and some of her closest allies – joined MPs from the Right on Monday morning to tell Ms Allan they no longer supported her as leader. The delegation later approached Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, a leading figure in the party's Right faction, urging him to challenge Ms Allan. He has since declared he will run for the top job.  It comes just four months out from the state election on November 28, when Labor will vie for a historic fourth term in government. Allan stared down previous leadership rumblings in June after poor polling pointed to a likely electoral defeat and her lowly popularity rating. Carroll publicly ruled out a challenge in June, pouring cold water on rumblings at the time and throwing his weight behind the premier.  Factional powerbrokers within Victoria's Labor Party on Sunday night agreed Jacinta Allan had lost the support of a majority of the caucus, according to multiple media reports Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, from the party's right faction, has confirmed he will challenge her for the top job
