ALBAWABA- Iranian drones struck critical energy infrastructure in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates overnight, intensifying Tehran’s retaliatory campaign amid the six-week US-Israel-Iran conflict.

In Kuwait, a drone hit the Shuwaikh Oil Sector Complex, early Sunday, igniting a fire at the headquarters of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and the oil ministry. Two power and desalination plants were also damaged, causing outages in two electricity-generating units. No casualties were reported.

Fatima Abbas Johar Hayat, spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, condemned the attacks as “criminal aggression,” adding that damage assessments are ongoing.

In the UAE, debris from intercepted Iranian missiles and drones sparked fires at Abu Dhabi’s Borouge petrochemicals facility. The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that air defences engaged multiple incoming threats and stated, “The sounds heard across the country are the result of ongoing engagement operations.” No injuries or major operational disruptions were immediately reported.

The attacks follow a series of Iranian strikes targeting Gulf energy infrastructure in response to US and Israeli military actions, including previous incidents at Kuwait’s Mina al-Ahmadi refinery, a Kuwaiti oil tanker off Dubai, and gas fields in the UAE.
Oil markets remain volatile, and continued disruption to Gulf production and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz drives global energy prices higher.
