‘I don’t regret it!’ Robert Jenrick refuses to withdraw brutal jibes when pressed on language in politics

Robert Jenrick has refused to withdraw a series of brutal jibes at his opponents when pressed on the use of appropriate language in politics.

The Reform UK treasury spokesman was taken to task by GB News’s Camilla Tominey, who insisted “rhetoric does matter”.

The pair were speaking after Reform pledged to provide £100million in security for all sitting MPs and prominent former MPs following the murder of Ann Widdecombe in what police have said was a “targeted attack”.

Her death contributed to an already live debate on the rhetoric directed at Reform figures.

“You've used quite strong language yourself,” Camilla said.

“Talked about the government being a sick joke. You said: ‘We must stop this sick, disgusting betrayal.’

“In May, you talked about the government being morons. The moron premium is in full force this morning.”

“I don't resile from that,” Mr Jenrick cut it, refusing to back down from those remarks.

Camilla pushed: “Could you mind your language a little bit, in the interest of political discourse?”

“There's definitely a line that we have to be careful not to cross,” the Reform Treasury Spokesman responded.

“Some of our opponents have said outright lies about us or have made outrageous comparisons like comparing reform politicians to the Nazis or to fascists. That is wrong. I think that does incite violence against individuals in Reform, and that should never happen.”
