But could anything drastic be done?(Image: POOL/AFP via Getty Images)If you didn't already think Donald Trump was a dangerous madman sitting in the world's most powerful office, his threat of Genocide against Iran might have swung it for you.‌Or maybe it was the utterly unhinged Truth Social post yesterday when he ranted at Iran to "open the f****n' Strait you crazy b*****ds" that made you consider whether he was entirely presidential material.‌Perhaps you, like we, have been following every twist and turn of his second administration, watching through your fingers as law and norm after law and norm were cast aside in Trump's pursuit of power, plaudits and profit.‌In recent days there has been a lot of talk of Trump's presidency ending early. Some, including strategist James Carville, reckon if the Democrats sweep November's midterm elections it could spark a chain reaction of investigations, impeachments, war crimes tribunals and eventually the threat of imprisonment for the President. And he and some others suspect that faced with that prospect, Trump will cut a deal with JD Vance to resign in return for an immediate pardon, just like Richard Nixon did.But many don't think it's in Trump's personality to cut his losses. Based on all of his previous behaviour, the much more likely scenario is that he'll either find a fall guy to buy him some more time - or more likely, construct a way to deny reality.
