Meningiomas are a type of rare tumour in the thin tissue surrounding the brain.‌Doctors later told his mum, Sarah Mckeown, that he was the first child in the world to have the tumours in these specific areas. Its meant finding a treatment course has been particularly challenging.‌Scientists are now using Mason's unusual case for extensive research, including testing his blood and tumour tissue.
