GTA 6 leaker teases ‘nudist town’ video as Rockstar desperately try to catch him

More GTA 6 clips continue to leak ahead of this week’s Netflix showcase, as Rockstar tries to catch the person responsible. 

Rockstar is set to unveil GTA 6 properly in a Netflix Extended Look this Thursday, but the reveal has been undercut by a series of gameplay leaks over the past week. 

Since Tuesday, August 18, a total of 10 gameplay videos have been released online by a person or group known as Cyberleek. Rockstar hasn’t said anything about the leaked videos publically, but the clips have all been hit with copyright strikes, which suggests they are legitimate. 

These clips have showed off such things as fuel management systems for vehicles, basketball minigames, cut scenes, and protagonist Jason writing the word ‘leek’ in bullets on a wall – implying the leaker has a playable build of GTA 6 and not just videos. 

Across Saturday and Sunday, Cyberleek released four more clips, bringing the total to 10. As usual, for legal reasons we can’t share them, but the first of these shows Jason robbing various petrol stations, confirming you can refill fuel and repair your vehicle from the petrol pumps. 

Another video shows Jason stealing a car from a petrol station, as a non-playable character screams ‘Stop! The government’s stealing my gas!’ 

The other videos see Jason walking through a strip club, using binoculars to observe his surroundings, and flying a plane over Vice City at night. The latter confirms various songs in the game, including Go Insane by Lindsey Buckingham, Devil Woman by Cliff Richard, Smile by Jamiroquai, amongst others. 

At the time of writing, Cyberleek has released a poll on their website to decide which clip will be released next, between ‘Beach’, ‘Nudist Town’ and ‘Strip Club 2’. As a reminder, the leaker claims to be doing this as a protest against Rockstar’s anti-consumer practices of not launching GTA 6 on a disc, but they’re also asking for funding via cryptocurrency (which is going to count against them even more in any future legal trial).

According to a Bloomberg report from Friday, Rockstar hasn’t yet identified the leaker or figured out how it happened. It’s claimed Rockstar’s leaders and employees are ‘angry’ and ‘frustrated’, because this is the second time the sequel has been affected by leaks. The first time, in 2022, the perpetrator was a lone hacker and handed a indefinite hospital order, but nothing they revealed was particularly important.

It’s claimed Rockstar management is ‘all hands on deck’ trying to track down the leak’s origins. According to Kotaku, publisher Take-Two Interactive has filed subpoena requests to both Microsoft and Discord for the release of records related to online accounts which were involved in posting or sharing the leaks. 

Additionally, on August 24, a video appeared online allegedly showing Rockstar’s lawyers turning up at someone’s house, who is said to have posted on Reddit that something related to GTA 6 would happen on August 18 – the date when the leaks began. 

The person who shared the clip (who goes by the name Pilotx1970 on Reddit) claims they’re innocent and they ‘accidentally guessed’ the date. The clip itself doesn’t mention Rockstar or GTA 6, however, so it’s difficult to verify its legitimacy – especially with so many fake clips and scams emerging in the aftermath of these leaks. 

However, whether it’s true or not, it’s clear Rockstar is desperately chasing down any leads to try and stop any more footage from being released, but that so far they haven’t found out who’s behind the leak.

It remains to be seen if these leaks will escalate following the Netflix showcase, which takes place on Thursday, August 27 at 8pm BST. Recent reports had suggested the Netflix show will be 30 minutes long but these have been discredited and there’s currently no clue how long it will last or what format it will take.
