Griezmann to Join MLS’s Orlando from Atlético Madrid
Rabat – Antoine Griezmann’s transfer to Orlando City has been officially confirmed, the club announced on Tuesday.
The French attacker will play for Atlético Madrid until the end of the season, before moving to Orlando City SC as a designated player once the MLS secondary transfer window opens in July.
The deal is set to last until the conclusion of the 2027/28 season, marking MLS’s first campaign under its new European-aligned calendar, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Griezmann, 35, is Atlético Madrid’s all-time top scorer, with 211 goals and 91 assists across 488 appearances for the Spanish team.
He first moved to Atlético Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2014, left for FC Barcelona in 2019 before returning two years later on a loan that was later made permanent.
“It’s not easy to put into words what I feel, because this club is my home and you are my family,” Griezmann said on an Instagram post.
“But for now, let’s leave the future in the future: because I’m not leaving yet. I still have months with this shirt, months to give my all in our stadium and beyond, to lift that Copa del Rey, and to dream of going as far as possible in the Champions League.”
Griezmann retired from international football in 2024 after an impressive career with France, including winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals, as well as finishing runner-up at UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
