Gessime Opens Up on Morocco Debut: ‘Hakimi Welcomed Me Very Well’
The Strasbourg midfielder opened up about the joy of finally making his debut for the Moroccan senior national team, describing it as a moment he’s always dreamed of. He was especially touched by the warm welcome from his new teammates, noting that Achraf Hakimi went out of his way to help him settle in.
The young midfielder was called up for the recent international friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay, an important step in his international career. He made his first senior start for Morocco in the 2–1 win over Paraguay, sharing the pitch with many established Atlas Lions stars.
Speaking after Strasbourg’s 3–1 win over Nice, Gessime shared his emotions on the experience. “It’s the dream team, and the great players welcomed me very well, with Achraf Hakimi at the top of the list.”
He continued by explaining what it meant to finally play alongside players he had long admired. “These are players I dreamed of playing with, and making that a reality is truly wonderful. It is a dream I don’t want to wake up from.”
For the 20-year-old, the call-up represents the fulfillment of a long-held ambition. Since joining Strasbourg earlier this year, Gessime has quickly adapted to Ligue 1 football, and his strong performances have now been rewarded at international level.

Hakimi’s presence appears to have played a particuar role in helping the young midfielder settle into the senior national team environment. The Paris Saint-Germain star has been in outstanding form for both club and country and continues to lead Morocco as one of the team’s senior figures.
Gessime concluded by speaking about his role on the pitch and his desire to continue improving. “Going back to defence? We work all week and I try to do my job, shine on the pitch and enjoy myself.”
