Genesio Gives Update on Ayyoub Bouaddi After Injury Scare Against Nice
After the 0–0 draw between LOSC Lille and OGC Nice yesterday, Coach Bruno Genesio addressed the situation of Ayyoub Bouaddi, who was forced off after another knock.
The young midfielder, despite starting the match, is still dealing with a lingering knee issue that has been carefully managed over the past weeks.
“He felt pain again after a knock to his knee… it’s something that’s been happening quite often recently,” Genesio explained after the game.
Brillant sur le terrain comme en dehors, Bouaddi a remporté à l’Élysée un concours d’éloquence à 15 ans et obtenu un bac S mention très bien à 16 ans.

A managed return but not a full recovery
The context around Bouaddi’s situation makes the substitution easier to understand.
The 18-year-old had already been carrying a knee problem described by his coach as a “pretty serious knock,” suffered during the derby against RC Lens on April 4.
Because of that, his preparation was not ideal. He had “hardly trained at all” in the days leading up to Lille’s previous match, and was even left on the bench against Toulouse as a precaution. His return to the starting XI against Nice was then a controlled decision not a sign that everything was fully resolved.
Genesio made it clear he does not want to take “unnecessary risks: with one of the club’s brightest prospects.
That caution explains why Bouaddi was taken off as soon as discomfort returned
Despite his age, Bouaddi has already become an important piece in Lille’s system. His role is even more significant at the moment, with Nabil Bentaleb sidelined after surgery. That absence has increased the responsibility on the young midfielder, both in terms of minutes and influence.
But Lille are clearly thinking long-term. The priority is ensuring Bouaddi’s development is not compromised by recurring injuries.
For now, the message from Genesio is measured with no major alarm but clear vigilance.
