Health authorities say this will help protect those who are more at risk of becoming “seriously ill”.‌In an update, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warned that protection from any earlier COVID-19 vaccinations will be “starting to wane”. Therefore, certain people are encouraged to take up the free NHS spring booster.‌According to UKHSA data relating to last spring’s programme, people who received a vaccine were around 55 per cent less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19 in the five to nine weeks following vaccination. This was compared to those who remained unvaccinated.‌But who qualifies for the COVID-19 vaccination this spring? The eligibility criteria are the same as for spring 2025.
