Medical Examiner’s Office online records. Mauro, 35, died on April 23, but the cause of his death was undetermined at the time. The death was classified as accidental by the medical examiner. “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Josh Mauro,” the Arizona Cardinals said in a statement in April. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all who knew him. We extend our deepest condolences to everyone grieving this loss.” Mauro played eight NFL seasons with three teams (Cardinals, New York Giants and Oakland Raiders) between 2014 and 2021. His most productive season came in 2016, when he played 15 games (13 starts) and finished with 32 tackles for a Cardinals team that finished second in the NFC West at 7-8-1. He spent the vast majority of his career with Arizona, where he played for six seasons. Mauro played in 80 games and started 40 of those games. Mauro initially signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford in May 2014 before signing with the Cardinals that August. He last appeared in an NFL game in 2021.
