Flick’s Barcelona Eye Historic La Liga Finish and 100‑Point Record

Rabat – Barcelona’s season has narrowed to one clear objective, which is securing the La Liga title. After their Champions League exit to Atlético Madrid, Hansi Flick’s side now sit 11 points clear of Real Madrid, with the question being not if, but when they will be crowned champions.

The timing has become the biggest talking point. Barcelona could clinch the title as early as next weekend if they beat Osasuna and Madrid fail against Espanyol.

If Madrid win, then the stage is set for El Clasico on May 10, where Barcelona could seal the championship against their fiercest rivals.

The prospect of Real Madrid giving them a guard of honour at Camp Nou adds spice to the debate.

Chasing records and identity

Beyond the title, Flick’s squad has other motivations. Winning all remaining matches would take them to 100 points, equaling the record set by Tito Vilanova’s Barcelona in 2012-13 and Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid in 2011–12.

Flick also has the chance to replicate another landmark, fielding 11 La Masia graduates in a single match, a symbol of the club’s identity.

Barcelona’s recent 2-0 win at Getafe showed resilience. Fermin Lopez scored in stoppage time of the first half, while Marcus Rashford added a second after replacing Roony Bardghji.

With Lamine Yamal sidelined for the rest of the season and Raphinha also injured, Flick has had to reshuffle his attack.

Bardghji, usually in Yamal’s shadow, was given a chance but remains unproven. Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, impressed but is not seen as a long‑term option.

The midfield carried the team, with Gavi and Pedri central, Dani Olmo supporting Lewandowski, and Frenkie de Jong surprisingly on the bench.

Pedri looked sharper after recent struggles, while Pau Cubarsi anchored the defence with maturity. Flick’s pragmatic approach ensured control at a ground where Barça had not won since 2019.

Looking ahead, the club faces key decisions once the league is secured. Lewandowski’s future is unresolved, with reduced terms on the table for the 37‑year‑old striker.

Flick’s contract renewal, a search for a centre‑forward, and defensive reinforcements are also priorities. Financial restrictions under La Liga’s salary cap remain a challenge, limiting spending flexibility.
