'Fighting yourselves to death!' Dan Jarvis skewered by GB News host over Labour's infighting while Britain remains 'in a state'

Watch the moment GB News host Alex Armstrong grills Security Minister Dan Jarvis on Labour's ongoing internal drama, declaring the Government is "fighting itself to death".

Speaking to the People's Channel, Mr Jarvis assured he is "getting on with the difficult and important job of keeping our country safe".

Highlighting the country's ongoing issues affecting Britons, Alex told Mr Jarvis: "It doesn't seem like you're getting on with the job.

"The country's in an absolute state, and your party is fighting itself to death over who should be the next Prime Minister, despite the fact we don't even know whether there will be one. It's all a bit of a mess, isn't it?"

Mr Jarvis disagreed with Alex responding: "I can categorically assure you that I am getting on with the difficult and important job of keeping our country safe.

"That occupies all of my time seven days a week, and I'm getting on with that important job."

Alex then hit back: "But the global economy is heading to stagflation with only a few weeks left of oil supply, youth unemployment has hit an 11-year high, and UK unemployment has risen to five per cent. Need I go on?"

The Labour MP argued: "In terms of the characterisation you painted of the country, that is a somewhat gloomy one, and I would paint a more upbeat, more successful one than the one you've just done."

Interjecting Mr Jarvis, Alex stressed the minister can "paint all the pictures you like, but the the facts are reality".

Alex made clear: "Young people can't get work, you've just opened the door to lots of EU students on the Erasmus programme when you should be focusing here on British students.

"So the picture you may want to paint is very different from the reality of British people suffering. What are you going to do to make their lives easier?"

Mr Jarvis commented: "The stats that you've outlined are points of concern, but my understanding is that over the last three months, we've actually seen more people go into employment. There are lots of activities underway to support our young people, particularly that cohort of the working population who've been out of the workplace for a number of years.

"And there are specific things in place to support them, but we need to fix the fundamentals of our economy. I completely accept that there are very significant cost of living challenges, and that's why we'll be hearing from the Chancellor, who will be saying more about what the Government is intending to do to support people with those wider cost of living pressures."

Turning the discussion to Andy Burnham's by-election bid, Mr Jarvis was questioned on whether he believes the Makerfield hopeful will be "a good Labour leader".

He responded: "He's got a proud track record of delivery in Greater Manchester. He's been an excellent mayor and it's absolutely his right to put himself forward to be the candidate for the Makerfield by-election.

"But there is a process that is in place, and the NEC will have to take a view about who they think is the best candidate, and whoever they decide will be the candidate, I'm sure that the whole Labour movement will get behind that person and campaign for them in this important by election."

Pressed again on Mr Burnham's capabilities as Labour leader, Mr Jarvis declared that he "supports the Prime Minister" to "get on with the job".

He stated: "I support the Prime Minister, and my responsibilities are to ensure our national security, and I work very closely with the Prime Minister on that.

"The Prime Minister has been clear about his intentions, he's getting on with the job. Yes, we suffered very, very difficult election results a couple of weeks ago and we need to listen and learn from what the public told us during those elections.

"But the Prime Minister was elected back in 2024, and he's getting on with that job. Andy is perfectly entitled to put himself forward to be the candidate. The NEC will take a view about who the best person is, they will make a decision and then everybody will unite behind that candidate."
